About Nagarik Nepal

Know your Nepal, offline, in one place.

Nagarik Nepal started from a small, specific frustration: there wasn't one reliable place to look up which province a district belongs to, which local level a ward sits in, or how Nepal's federal structure actually fits together, especially without a data connection. What began as a reference tool for that one problem has grown into three connected things: an offline-first mobile app, a public directory covering every province, district and local level, and a blog of sourced, citable explainers about Nepal.

What we build

The Nagarik Nepal app: an offline-first Android reference covering all 7 provinces, 77 districts and 753 local levels of Nepal, plus daily rashifal, NPR exchange rates, the national anthem and national symbols. No account, no login, and no ads inside the app.
The local levels directory: the same underlying dataset, browsable on the web, with headquarters, ward counts and area for every unit in the hierarchy.
The blog: practical guides to Nepali government services (passports, citizenship, voter registration, PAN, driving licenses), explainers on Nepal's administrative structure, and longer, sourced pieces on current events, written to be useful to cite, not just to read once.

Who's behind it

Nagarik Nepal is built and maintained by Riyoj Labs, a small, independent team. We're not a government project and have no official affiliation with the Government of Nepal, we're practitioners who wanted the reference tool to exist and decided to build it.

How we work

Administrative data on the directory and in the app is cross-checked against official sources (Nepal's Central Bureau of Statistics and government gazettes) and against Wikipedia's actively maintained province, district and local level pages where useful for a second reference point. Blog posts about current events cite every figure and quote to the news organization, government statement, or encyclopedic source that reported it, and photographs carry individual credit and license information in their captions, see our note on sourcing for an example of how we approach that.

We correct mistakes when we find them, or when readers point them out. If you spot something wrong, our Contact Us page has the fastest way to reach us.
